Snake Proof Boots: What to Look For in a Good Pair of Snake Boots

Snake Boots: What to Shop for

Snake proof boots come in a huge variety of different styles and forms. In fact, there are many different types of these protective anti snake boots that are made by over a dozen different companies who specialize in many different types of footwear. When looking through these companies it's important to note that some specifically specialize in snake proof boots and only snake proof boots, but there are others who are hiking, hunting, or outdoor boot companies first and foremost who also have a specific section for this type of protective footwear. The biggest concern with these companies is to make sure the specific brand you buy are designed to stop snake fangs and aren't just normal outdoor boots that may or may not stop a venomous snake bite, but which are not designed for that use. While these boots are generally more expensive than a normal pair, the extra security is often worth the price, and smart shoppers can find many great deals on inexpensive snake proof boots.

So when you're shopping for a new pair, there are several things you need to look at in order to make a good informed decision. The first is to know what the specific uses for your boots are. There are good quality snake boots for many different environments. The best pair for a harsh desert environment is going to be completely different than the best pair for swamps or wetlands. The latter demands water proof boots and footwear that are more likely to look like rubber, as well as heavier insulation inside to keep the feet warm and dry. In the desert people don't need or want extra insulation to keep their feet warmer, and they don't want boots that thick and rubber.

In that example, a person from each situation would want a completely different pair of good snake boots, but that couldn't be confirmed until the needs of each side were clearly laid out. The next step is to look at consumer reviews. Every company's website is going to declare their products the best ever. Finding good impartial reviews is the best way to find which companies are actually stepping up to the plate and which are not. Amazon.com's rating system and customer reviews can offer some very good insight into this process by giving you access to actual reviews from actual customers.

Finally, price is an issue. Many of the highest pairs of snake boots can run over $200, but this extra money isn't for extra protection. If boots are touted as being snake proof, they have to be snake proof. The extra expense comes from things like insulation, state of the art comforting or water proofing, or other similar extras that are important for boots, but not for "extra protection." Figure out what you really need versus what you don't, and do a little bit of extra searching to find the best online deals for snake proof boots.

All About Snake Proof Boots

Long Ramble on Snake Proof Boots

This post is going to be kind of a long one, but the more I look around the more it becomes apparent that there just isn't a lot of good information on snake proof boots available online. While it's extremely easy to find a place to buy some, it's not nearly as easy to find any type of an online guide or similar type of informational resource that can tell you a lot about what the real deal is behind these great pieces of footwear in general, or a specific brand of snake proof boot.

I've done my best with this blog to set up an informational resource which you might find really helpful in being able to get educated all about how snake boots work, and that with that information you will feel much better and more well prepared to go and make a good choice on the right pair for you.

One of the funny things about snake protection like snake proof clothing is that often times there might be several different names for what basically amounts to the same thing. For example, turkey hunting swamp boots very often are the same exact thing and snake proof swamp boots, but simply marketed very cleverly to individuals who like to hunt wild turkey - especially in swampy areas in the South where the best places to find wild toms are often the same places you're most likely to run into some venomous snakes.

You can't blame some store owners for the clever marketing - and those boots are designed to protect the hunters and anyone else who has to be out in an environment like that. Another thing about snake boots is just how versatile the choices are depending on what exactly you're looking for.

There are many companies who make quality snake boots, and in general one company isn't necessarily any better than the others - they all make quality products that are designed with protection in mind first and foremost. On that level, Chippewa, Lacrosse, Danner, Rocky, Mossy Oak, RedHead, Justin, and other related snake boot companies are all equally good. When you start looking at style or comfort then things can change, but no company in this market is going to get away with releasing a sub standard boot. Not with a person's health at stake!

While Chippewa Snake Proof Boots and Lacrosse Snake Proof Boots have traditionally been the biggest companies with the most sales in the industry, there is a strong trending movement in the industry towards smaller companies like Herman, Rocky, Danner, Justin, and RedHead. These companies have the ability to make very specialty niche boots that might really appeal to one group or one segment in the market and make them the best overall choice for that individual.

It's not difficult to understand this reasoning. If you're looking specifically for a ladies snake proof hunting swamp boot that is also nice enough to wear with a business casual set up at a dance or public get together, then why wouldn't you buy from the one specialty company that makes exactly that instead of settling for something more general that doesn't completely fit what you're looking for?

There are many reasons that snake proof boots do well, not the least of which is peace of mind to go with the protection for your lower legs. These are also made for every member of the family from adults to kids, men and women, girls and boys. There's a lot to like about this footwear, especially for those of us who don't like slithering things all around our feet. So when getting rid of snakes isn't an option, maybe it's time just to buy the boots!

Rubber Snake Boots | Snake Proof Rubber Boots

There are many brands of rubber snake proof boots on the market, however do not be swept away by some pricey snake skin boot. One pair of snake boots will guard you against the protection against venomous snake bites on your next adventure through the swamps or hiking along a trail. On style of snake proof boot is the 16” rubber boot; it goes mid way up the leg to guard against the lower extremity and foot region of your body. This is really important because there are more snake bites on the lower leg as opposed to the foot.

This style of boot protects you against the predator that lurks beneath leaves and debris. The rubber boot is best for swamp and wetlands, but is not logical for long hikes or walks. A good snake boot offers you the benefit and peace of mind to know that you are protected from infringing fangs. Keep in mind the activity that you will be performing, if you are going fishing in the swamps or moving through the wetter regions of the United States the rubber snake boot is very often your best option.

This style of boot goes over the knee and to the middle of the thigh protecting you against creatures swimming along the water or beneath. There are many types of snake proof rubber boots on the market and you must consider your needs when choosing the style of boot. Make sure you find one that is comfortable and will serve your needs best. Rubber snake proof boots offer you great protection throughout the swampy lands such as Louisiana, Florida, and lower Mississippi.

Justin Snake Proof Boots

More on Justin Snake Boots

Justin snake boots continue to gain in popularity because of their comfort, great design, and reputation for producing a quality product. Another reason Justin snake boots tend to do well is because they are known far and wide outside of the snake boot circuit. Justin makes cowboy boots, hunting boots, hiking boots - you name the type of quality boot or outdoor footwear and there is a very good chance that this company makes that product.

Because of this, snake proof boots might be considered a minor market in the overall picture of this company's portfolio - but that's no reason to worry about quality work. The reason Justin Boots has gotten to where it is can only be described with two words: quality work.

Is their work much better than that of other companies who produce the same products? That's hard to say and really is a matter of personal opinion. When it comes to snake boots the only way I judge them is to ask the question of whether they work or not. All the major companies make boots designed to keep the fangs of venomous snakes away, and Justin snake boots are no exception.

In the end, deciding on the appropriate footwear for you requires your own personal preferences and tastes to be figured into the mix. But there is never any reason not to give a good pair of Justin snake boots a shot.

Snake Proof Boots | Rattlesnake Proof Boots | Copperhead Proof Boots | Snake Boots

Rattlesnake Proof Boots vs. Copperhead Proof Boots

When looking for the perfect pair of snake proof boots, there are a lot of questions that come up. Many times hunters or hikers who are looking for a quality pair of snake boots often have very specific snakes in mind that they want to protect themselves from. In North America coral snakes tend to be more of an afterthought, in part because they don't have the fangs of vipers and so have a very difficult time injecting venom past normal clothes or shoes as is.

But rattlesnakes, copperheads, and cottonmouths are all dangerous vipers that can strike at hunters of both woods and swamps, as well as hikers in the desert. These venomous snakes are everywhere, and so oftentimes people will find a wide variety of snake proof boots, and so not knowing which brand is best, they'll look (and sometimes even buy) a more expensive pair of snake boots that has one of the following tags:

  • Rattlesnake Proof Boots
  • Copperhead Proof Boots
  • Water Moccasin Proof Boots

There's a major problem with this: all snake proof boots are built to stop fangs, meaning there is no such thing as a "specialized" snake boot. If you find two great pairs of snake proof boots, and one costs a lot more but is "rattlesnake proof" while the other is simply "snake proof," don't fall for the rattlesnake snake proof boot scam. The "normal" pair of snake proof boots are more than enough to stop any rattlesnake's bite. Or copperhead. Or cobra, taipen, mamba, or European viper, depending on where in the world you're trekking.

A good pair of snake boots are designed to stop the strike of a venomous snake, no matter what species. Look for a good pair of snake proof boots, and don't fall for the "rattlesnake proof boots" or "copperhead proof boots" scama - all snake proof boots are good enough.

Snake Proof Boots | Long Blog Post on Snake Boots | Snake Boot Articles | Anti Snake Boots

Quality Snake Boots - Boots to Prevent Snake Bites

There are a lot of questions about snake proof boots. Snake boots are quality boots that are designed with the specific purpose of protecting you from venomous snake bites. In the United States this means that snake bite boots will protect against coral snakes, rattlesnakes, copperheads, and water moccasins. While these vipers can be deadly, in the actual U.S. the average number of recorded deaths due to venom is around eight per year. In other countries the number is much much higher.

In South America snake bites are much more deadly. Whether it is in the Amazon rain forests of Brazil, or in other parts of this continent, quality snake boots are a must if you are going to be on some adventure hiking, or natural adventures of any kind. Anti snake boots can help fend off the vicious strikes of an aggressive Fer-de-Lance, one of the deadliest poisonous snakes in the world.

A good pair of boots to prevent snake bites, such as a pair of RedHead snake boots or Chippewa snake boots, can also fend off the strike of the Bushmaster, often considered the biggest competition with the Fer-de-Lance for the most dangerous snake in all of South America. Bites from either of those two snakes out in the wild can be deadly. A good pair of snake boots can prevent a deadly bite, and even if you are in range to get treated with anti-venom, this footwear will save you a lot of pain during the recovery process.

There are two major rattlesnakes south of the Rio Grande that you will want rattlesnake proof boots for. There's the Mexican West Coast rattlesnake and the South American rattlesnake. The West Coast rattler is a little more dangerous, and both are ranked as slightly more dangerous than the Eastern and Western Diamondback rattlesnakes from North America.

A Golden Lancehead is a prime example of the type of snake that makes you want a quality pair of Rocky snake boots. As for actual venom potency, this snake is only fifth or sixth in South America, but the venom is especially toxic and complex, meaning that anti-venom doesn't treat the bite as well, and so these bites can be especially deadly, cause allergic reactions, or even cause deep nerve, muscle, and tissue damage.

A good pair of quality snake boots is an absolute necessity if you're going to be doing a lot of wilderness travel in South America. If it can stop snake fangs, those snake boots will also be able to stop spider bites or scorpion stings, protecting you not only from the dangerous slithery snakes, but also all the creepy crawlies that could also cause some bad times.

What type of snake proof boots you wear don't necessarily matter, as long as they are made from a quality company like Lacrosse, Chippewa, Browning, or Herman. While there are differences between snake proof hunting boots, snake proof hiking boots, and ladies snake boots, they all protect equally well. Make sure to get snake boots that don't just protect your feet, but also protect your lower legs, since far more venomous snake bites will take place here than on any other part of the human body.

Are you going to camp and backpack Europe and think you're safe? Think again. While the only venomous snakes in Europe are the European Vipers, and they are among some of the least dangerous venomous snakes in the world, they are still around. If you're going to be buying a new pair of hiking boots anyway, why not spend the same amount of money (or less) getting a new or used pair of snake boots. If money is an issue, you can often find cheap snake proof boots on ebay.

If you're planning a trip to the land down under, around Australia or Papua New Guinea, then you know what the importance of quality snake boots are. Australia has many of not only the most venomous snakes in the world, but the most dangerous and aggressive snakes in the world, as well. While cobras and king cobras may very well be the most famous and feared of all the venomous snakes, they're not the most dangerous, and many of the more deadly vipers can all be found in Australia.

For example, the Papuan and Coastal Taipans are two of the deadliest venomous snakes in the world, both measured as far more dangerous than the king cobra. Before anti-venom was developed, the death rate from a single bite from either of these snakes was a full 100%. You definitely want to wear snake boots anywhere you might encounter these snakes, as they are known for being aggressive when they feel threatened, and are some of the very few snakes who strike multiple times with actual increasing amounts of venom with each bite. Other snakes run dry, these guys will keep doubling the dosage.

Good Australian snake proof boots are critical for this reason, and anyone who spends extensive time in the Outback, especially if you're a tourist, without a good pair of snake boots is down right foolish. There are both men's snake boots and women's snake boots, so there's no excuse for not having a quality pair of snake boots to protect yourself, no matter what part of the "never never" you're out checking out, as the locals like to call it.

Aside from the Taipans, there's also the large king brown snake, which is also deadlier than any type of cobra. A great pair of men's hiking snake boots or ladies quality snake boots will save you a lot of potential grief, pain, and may easily save your lives. Are you really going trust your life to a bar "cowboy" claiming that no snake can bite through cowboy boots? When it's your life on the line?

If price is an issue, look for snake boots sales discounts to find a pair of quality snake boots that you can afford, and that will protect you from even the worst of vipers no matter what continent you're on. Chippewa snake boots, lacrosse snake boots, browning snake boots, Herman snake boots, redhead snake boots, alpha venom snake boots, all of these are fantastic snake proof boots that can offer you complete protection, whether it's from a rattlesnake, European viper, or king cobra.

If you are doing some adventure traveling, make sure you find a pair of quality snake boots.

Snake Proof Boots | Australian Snake Boots | Australian Snake Proof Boots

This one will be a fairly quick post about snake proof boots, Australian Snake Boots, and other closely related subjects. In the last post I mentioned several different brands of snake boots, including:

Chippewa snake boots - This makes sense as Chippewa is one of the two largest producers of snake proof boots, with Lacrosse being the nearest competitor.
Lacrosse snake boots - Lacrosse is the other giant among snake boot companies, and along with Chippewa account for the majority of snake proof boots produced.
Herman snake boots - Although smaller, Herman already has a reputation for amazing snake proof boots and is quickly finding a loyal and devout following of fans.
Danner snake boots - Danner is another small niche company, but one that has made some amazing snake boots
Rocky snake boots - Another upstart, very new compared to the others, but with some great early reviews
Rocky Longbeard snake boots
RedHead snake boots
Winchester Proline snake boots
Herman Survivor snake boots

There was one brand of snake proof boot that I forgot, which is the alpha venom snake boot. This is a fantastic snake proof boot that will get a lot of attention from a very devoted niche.
